Protection from Wildfires

One of the major issues in the fire protection against wildfires is to provide products that will harden building structures or provide a higher level of fire protection to their exterior.

The Firefree Wildfire System is the first and only surface applied intumescent exterior coating system that meets all the fire and weatherization standards required by the Wildland Urban Interface (“WUI”), as prescribed in the California Building Standards Code Section 704A. These standards include (i) the ASTM E2768-30 for ignition resistance (ASTM E84 30 Minute Extended), and (ii) the ASTM D2898 method B for weatherization. All testing has been validated through ICC/IAS certified, independent third-party testing laboratories.

The Firefree Wildfire System can be applied to wall sidings, eaves, soffits, building projections and overhangs. The Firefree Coating system includes a proprietary Firefree ignition resistant coating covered by the Firefree Exterior (“FfE”) topcoat.

The proprietary Firefree ignition resistant coating meets the industry standard for non–combustibility and ignition resistant materials. This standard, which is used for fire retardant treated lumber (“FRT”), involves measuring a product’s ability to slow down horizontal flame spread and smoke development. The ignition resistant properties of the Firefree coating is further protected from exterior weathering by the application of the Firefree FfE exterior top coat.

Wildfires predominantly occur in the WUI which is a geographic location where structures and flammable vegetation merge in a wildfire-prone environment, resulting in fires devastating to both lives and properties. WUI areas include all structures either built or being built in low to highly forested areas or low to highly vegetated areas including high density housing areas.

Firefree Coatings, Inc. is the leading developer of cost-efficient fire retardant and fire resistant technologies that help prevent the spread of fire, smoke and toxic gases during a fire, thus giving time to occupants to evacuate and protecting the rest of the property from fire. Firefree ignition resistant coatings are tested at third party accredited International Accreditation Service (IAS) fire testing laboratories and are listed by ICC-ES. Firefree Coatings is a member of NFPA, ICC and ASTM E-05 Committee.
