Firefree 88 has been granted a “Green” symbol under the Factory Mutual Approved umbrella. This symbol allows Firefree 88 to be considered sustainable. Factory Mutual (FM Approvals, www.fmapprovals.com), a division of FM Global, is a world leader in commercial property insurance and risk management. FM Approvals certifies products with a unique focus on rigorous testing and certification of loss prevention products and services.
This builds on Firefree 88’s leading position as an environmentally friendly, green product. Firefree 88 already qualifies as an MPI (Master Painter’s Institute) listed fire retardant paint meeting the stringent requirement for Green Performance Standards GPS-01 and GPS-02. Firefree’s green ecological listings enable Firefree 88 to reach the specific Green qualifications for Green Building design points towards the LEED certification of a building per SCAQMD. MPI interacts with critical environmental organizations such as US Green Building Council, LEED, LEED Canada, National Institute of Building Sciences and Environment Canada to verify and achieve Green Building Products Standards.

Vulcan Vents obtained a listing from California State Fire Marshall for use in the Wildland Urban Interface wildfires, under category 8165 of the Building Material Listing Program.
Vulcan Vents have also successfully passed the ASTM Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) testing standards for ember and flame intrusion (ASTM E 2886 and ASTM E 2912). These standards, officially adopted and published, are applicable throughout the entire United States for any wildland fire area in which new or existing homes exist or are being built.
In addition to passing the WUI fire testing standards, the Vulcan Vents have also passed the one (1) hour fire test under the ASTM E 119 one (1) hour fire test standard. This standard is applicable in property side yard setback issues where a one (1) hour fire rating is being required.
Vulcan Vents are products of Vulcan Technologies, a partner of Firefree Coatings. Their vents use a Firefree proprietary intumescent product. They are the only vents that meet both the WUI and the one (1) hour fire test standards for the exterior of buildings while providing the proper amount of ventilation to attic and crawl spaces in building structures. The vents are easy to install in both new and retrofit conditions, are made of high quality materials and quality construction.

Firefree Class A passes the ASTM E-84 30 minutes test at a low thin film thickness.
Firefree Class A, applied at 8 mils dry thickness, registered a zero (0) flame spread index and 45 smoke density index, also qualifying the coating for air plenum spaces (as required by mechanical building codes). At this low thickness of one coat, the coating will comply with the same acceptance criteria used for fire retardant treated wood (while other coatings would require multiple coats).
In addition, the coating complies with the California Building Code requirements Chapter 7A-5, for eaves/soffits with the Wild Fire Zones, Wildland Urban Interface (WUI), which most insurance companies require to reinstate coverage.
