FIREFREE CLASS A, COST EFFICIENT FIRE RETARDANT

Firefree Class A meets all of the "ASTM E-84 Class A" ratings, including the 30-minute extended, at the recommended application rates.

Firefree Class A is:

Cost efficient: as a result of its' superior fire retardant performance, only a thin layer of FFA will be required. As a result, FFA provides significant material and labor cost reductions, resulting in significant savings (35% and above) compared to costs associated with other fire retardant coatings.

Easy to use: FFA is a high quality, non-toxic, water based retardant (matte) paint with excellent adhesion and durability and is easy to apply by brush, roller or sprayer. In most cases, FFA will be self-priming, thus resulting in additional cost savings.

Firefree Class A can be applied to a wide range of combustible materials and assemblies including oriented strand board (OSB), plywood, dimensional lumber, wood joists and trusses, wood paneling and sheathing, and associated lumber. Its use is recommended for residential, multifamily, commercial and industrial projects where a Class A fire rating is required.

FIREFREE CLASS A HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY TESTED TO ALL OF THE CLASS A FIRE RATINGS

Firefree Class A has been successfully tested to meet all code requirements accepted in accordance with ASTM E-84.

TESTS:

ASTM E84 (NFPA 255, UL 723): QAI Laboratories, IAS accredited fire testing laboratory, and CALFIIRE Approved Testing Laboratory

Results:

Firefree Class A achieved a testing result for flame spread index of ≤25, with a minimal thickness of 6 mils (.006 inch) dry application.

Firefree Class A also meets the requirement for fire and smoke characteristics used in plenum spaces with a minimal thickness of 10 mils (.010 inch) because of its smoke index reading of 30 (less than 50).

ASTM E84 (NFPA 255, UL 723) – EXTENDED 30 MINUTE: QAI Laboratories, IAS accredited fire testing laboratory and CALFIRE Approved Testing Laboratory

ASTM E 84 or UL 723, a listed flame spread index of 25 or less and show no evidence of significant progressive combustion when the test is continued for an additional 20-minute period. In addition, the flame front shall not progress more than 10.5 feet (3200 mm) beyond the centerline of the burners at any time during the test.

Results:

Firefree Class A achieved a testing result for flame spread index of ZERO (0) and smoke development index of ZERO (0), with a minimal thickness of 20 mils (.020inch) dry application.

In addition to the testing performed, although it is not required by the test standard, char damage measurements were taken to effectively show the high performance level of the coating. Based on the results obtained from the 30 minute extended test, the wood materials tested showed minimal char damage, showing FFA’s ability to assist in maintaining the structural integrity of the wood materials in a fire situation.
